The night rush, one of the most dangerous of the many trials and tribulations experienced by even the most seasoned of drovers, is the motivation to capture this story in paint.
Leaping from a swag without boots into a pitch-black night, mounting a trusted night horse and racing to get to the lead of a terrified mob as they scatter in all directions through the scrub is a nightmare every droving plant tries to avoid. ‘Out of the Night’ draws attention to the length of time it may take to bring a mob back under control so the boss drover can discharge his responsibility to deliver the right head count to his destination.
