It was artist supremo and master of nostalgia, D’Arcy Doyle, whose enthusiasm got me into prints in the late 80’s. Looking over my work he urged me to get the printing presses rolling. It was his venture into prints he said, that got him known.
At the same time, I coincidentally got a call from Lester Padman OBE of Boolarong Press who, following a request for Australian art prints from their print distributors and galleries, identified my work as the answer to this growing niche market. Lester was keen for Boolarong to publish my work and get me well-known in the art field. However, having just talked to D’Arcy Doyle I had the confidence to tell him I’d publish, and he could buy them off me for a much more realistic price. That price quickly rose as demand grew, confirming Lester’s marketing research was correct.
