MUSTERING THE PLAINS
Using thin coatings of paint and a light touch with the brush Phil has captured the reality of light filtering through dust which blurs the distant outlines of horsemen and cattle. Although time and space seem infinite in the painting, the workday reality of the stockman in the foreground shows up in his alert watch over the flank of the mob and the measured gait of the horse.
